Russian warships on the move

Don’t bother to take a breath, the US economic situation hasn’t changed. The rest of the world goes on however, even if our economy effects everyone else in this world. But this new piece of news is quite interesting, as reports of Russian warships are en route to Venezuela. This move is said to be part of joint maneuvers in the Caribbean, between the two countries’ naval forces. Is this the precursor of an initiative to make Venezuela the next Cuba?

It’s been well known that Russian Prime Minister Putin and Venezuelan President Chavez have a longtime relationship and these recent events should raise eyebrows in the direction of our southern borders at Mexico and the security of sovereign waters in the Caribbean. This joint venture will include an entire squadron of Russia’s Northern Fleet, which will include a nuclear cruiser and three other ships. This all comes right at the conclusion of Russian bombers that were just visiting in Venezuela. There are also planned visits of Chavez to Moscow.

This may be in response to the US sending some of our ships to Georgia in the last few months, because of the uprising that has been going on there. Let’s not forget that Putin has many friendships with countries that are not allied with the US and its interests, like Iran. Our present relationship with Russia has been coined a “Cold Peace” in retrospect to the “Cold War”, which could be taken as only a half-step away from what our situation with the USSR had been in previous decades.
