I am somewhat of a die hard Trekkie and I have either hoped that the series would be put to rest or reinstated, not reinvented. Unfortunately, reinvention seems to be unavoidable and it has made it hard for me to easily accept the changes that have come. I remember the first two movies of the OST crew and I was impressed but bored with the Motion Picture. I remain a fanatic for the Wrath Of Khan.
I started to see the Alpha of the Omega, in the Genesis of the Search for Spock. I got lost somewhere during the Voyage Home. I had hoped that the Final Frontier really would be the final movie, I was wrong. I found portions of the Undiscovered Country to be new territory, but not completely acceptable. Everyone may have thought that the ship and crew had been retired, nope.
I remember the early reports and look-and-feel of the Next Generation series – I wasn’t happy. I remember that the technology of the show was good, with the exception of the quite cheezy “Warp Effects”. Sets and equipment was good. Character creation and story lines were OK, at first. Then DS9 came along and ruined everything. I saw a glimmer of hope with Cpt. Janeway and the Voyager crew, but that was short lived in my opinion.

The NextGen movies began well with the rebirth and death of Cpt. James T. Kirk in Generations. First Contact became my new favorite film behind T.W.O.K., but unfortunately, Insurrection buried a new blade into the back of my favorite franchise. Nemesis brought back a new and fresh look-and-feel that had been long-since removed from Star Trek movies, the feel of a movie! Many of the previous NextGen films just seemed to be a longer TV episode when it came to lighting and sound. I really enjoyed the entire production, even the inevitable sacrifice of everyone’s favorite artificial life form.
The franchise appeared to finally be put to rest, but Paramount had other ideas with the Enterprise series. I enjoyed the first season’s “getting to know you” feel, both for the technology and the crew. The second season started to lose me in that ho-hum of recycled stories that seems to happen way to often in the franchise’s history. That show was put to rest, and again, Star Trek is done now? Come on, not in my lifetime!

I have seen the teaser, the promo pictures and I have even posted the “Three Spocks” on this very site. But now a new trailer is soon to be available online, along with the trailer being shown during the new James Bond film. I have even seen some new pics of the wardrobe and sets….reinvention once again. My stomach’s not feeling so good.
All I can do at this point, is hope the trailer sheds a little light on the type of dialogue and story quality we are going to get in May of 2009. I mean J.J. Abrams has been good on quite a few things to date. My recent favorite is FOX’s Fringe, I hope it doesn’t end with Fringe though.
