DirecTV regional sports zipcode and database debacle

DirecTV

I like DirecTV. I don’t like being lied to. I also don’t like when a business is so large that it forgets how to communicate between departments and seniority levels. A lack of communication can cause the business to falter in its customer service and ultimately look either like employees are lying or that they don’t know something that should either be known or at least to know where to find the answer. Well what would you think if you had a problem with a service, called the appropriate support department and the person answering the phone doesn’t have the answer? What if that person’s boss doesn’t either. What if multiple attempts, speaking with a different region’s personnel, gets even more confusing when different and erroneous information is given? You might get a bit flustered, right? That is exactly what had happened to me last month. Let me explain what really happened, how the solution was found and what exactly went wrong along the way. Read Magazines Online, free!

Not only has my search for TV online been successful, but I was interested in using a published source for a college paper and I found a new website, Mygazines, that has an excellent service! You can, once again, create a free account to view articles in recently published magazines. The system is Flash-based and is quite easy to use. Full magazines and special articles are available for viewing at your convenience. The selection of print media is vast, with magazines from North America, South America, Europe

Titles include Popular Science, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Better Homes and Gardens and so much more! Books are also slowly, but steadily, being added to the site. Go check it out, you may never buy another magazine again.

Real Web TV, free

I have spent many hours scouring the web, trying desperately to find free broadcasts of live TV. In my wanderings, I stumbled on Hulu and enjoy frequenting the service often. Hulu is a site/service that has made agreements with Hollywood, to allow re”broadcasts” of both TV shows and select movies.

The site has a fairly wide selection of both classic and current televisions shows. The best part of these shows is the fact that there are minimal interruptions of only three or four 30 sec. commercials. The TV selection ranges from shows the likes of Heroes and 30 Rock, to classics like Starsky & Hutch and I Spy. Not all shows have all episodes listed, and some listings only include clips. Show genres include talk shows, cartoons and sporting events.

The movie choices range in a similar time frame (1960′s to present), with many genres and rating levels. Rated “R” movies require logging in, and signing up for a user account is free. Some movies also have limited 30 sec. commercials, but some only have an initial advertisement/preview for an upcoming movie release with no further interruptions!

Some shows and movies are available in “hi-res” 480p audio and video, while others are only shown in 360p. The pop-up feature also allows for the movie to be shown in a separate window, for convenient viewing on a secondary monitor if one is connected to your system. This gives the advantage of watching while working!
