Well, I have been waiting to write this post for quite some time now. Being in Eve Online for a little over a year now, I have had the pleasure of being in a few fleet engagements. I have had the most fun, being part of fleets that are run well, by successful Fleet Commanders (FCs). These particular FCs had the benefit of a very useful tool. It was simply called the Fleet Tool. It was written in PHP and had the ability to be accessed by both the FC and all pilots to be in the fleet.
Now I never had the opportunity to see the code for it, but since I am a programmer I decided to get started on it. I don’t know whether or not it makes use of flat files or a database, but I chose to make use of MySQL.
A dedicated fleet tool page has been added to this site, here: http://www.eds-online.net/eve-fleet-tool/
* There is also a thread on the Eve Forums, here: http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=982439

For those of you who are either living under a rock, or just don’t go online very much, my have never heard of Eve-Online. For years, video games have been dedicated to give players a venue to break away from the reality of their dull or desperate lives. Video Games have always been a rather simple process of turning on the TV, popping a cartridge or disc into the console and playing a game by yourself or against someone else in the room.
Well the advent of the Internet has changed everything. It’s now possible to switch on your tube and console to play anyone that has purchased the game and online connectivity service! But wait…….there’s more!! Online computer games to be played via the PC/Linux/Mac are now possible too. That means anyone, anywhere, can play the same game irregardless of language or computer platform. The great globe-heads at CCP have come up with ways of breaking down barriers in demographics, geography and even gender.

But wait again…….why haven’t you tried it yet? Do you love Star Wars, or Star Trek, or Flash Gordon, or any other Sci-Fi movie or TV show known to mankind? I mean really, who doesn’t to some extent? Eve-Online will astound you, not just with the incredible eye-candy that is waiting to destroy your retinas, but also the depth of the possibilities in this one-of-a-kind MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). You can truly go anywhere and be anyone in this Universe of four major races, with sub-cultures and racial wars. You can be a merchant, a pirate, a military soldier or even a diplomat. Take a shot at the 14 day free trial that’s available now! You may never play another game again.
